U.S. Spy Satellite

(March 3, 2008) — AGI's Center for Space Standards & Innovation (CSSI) in Colorado Springs has USA 193 Post-Shootdown Analysis available on its CelesTrak Web site.

(February 20, 2008) — Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI) is providing free graphics, animations, and interactive AGI Viewer files to broadcast, online, and print media for use in stories related to the U.S. Navy's firing of a modified SM-3 missile at a failing U.S. spy satellite.

The computer-generated video, which can be previewed below, depicts a notional deployment of U.S Navy ships in the Northern Pacific firing an SM-3 missile at the failed satellite and successfully intercepting it. To create the animation, AGI used its debris modeling and prediction software to show where the debris could go based on statistical breakup models, which simulate debris generation using distributions of mass, area, material density, velocity, and magnitude. The analysis shows that as the debris (green dots) orbits, much of it starts to "fall out" of orbit and burn up upon re-entry (red dots).

AGI's STK software can also be used to propagate satellites, simulate missile trajectories, generate debris from impact through dispersion, and analyze and visualize these capabilities in 3D. AGI Data Federate requires the use of a FlexNET License Server to host your license.

Obtain the Host ID and the Hostname or IP Address:

  • Start All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt. Right-click to 'Run as administrator'.
  • At the prompt, enter ipconfig /all
  • Under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection, note:
    • Physical Address (Host id)
    • IPv4 Address (IP Address)
  • Send this to AGI Support (moc.iga@troppus), with the subject line "Request for ADF Licenses."

You will receive an e-mail containing

  1. ADF Server Installation download link
  2. Detailed instructions for installing the License Server.
  3. Users are provided two *.lic files; a server license file installed on the FlexNET License Server and a client license, installed during the AGI Data Federate Server installation.
