AMAZONAS 3, AZERSPACE (AFRICASAT 1A) launch

By: RocketGirl
An Ariane 5 launched from Kourou, French Guiana, on February 7 carrying Amazonas 3 and Azerspace (Africasat 1A) to orbit. This was a record-setting launch for the most massive payload ever injected into a geostationary transfer orbit by an Ariane 5. Amazonas 3 (operated by Hispasat) will provide direct-to-home television programming, support phone networks and provide broadband internet services to customers in Latin America, Europe and North Africa. Azerspace/Africasat 1A (Azerbaijan's first satellite) will provide internet, video distribution and direct-to-home television. The NORAD catalog (or SSC) number for Amazonas 3 is 39078 and Azerspace (Africasat 1A) is 39079. Both will be available in the STK satellite database shortly.
