EXTON, PA, USA (Dec.21 , 2014)—Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) are once again tracking Santa on his Christmas trek around the globe with the help of AGI’s open source Cesium project and Microsoft Bing®. Beginning at 2:01 a.m. EST on December 24, visitors to the NORAD Tracks Santa site, www.noradsanta.org, will be able to follow Santa on his annual journey around the globe using Cesium, which provides 3D tracking known as Santa Tracker.
A Cesium-based 3D globe is used to show Santa’s journey throughout the night, beginning at the North Pole, after which he heads west from the International Date Line. As users visit the site they will get his current position on the globe with gIFT models as well global terrain, produced with AGI’s STK Terrain Server and Microsoft Bing imagery. “Santa Cams” stationed around the globe stream video of Old St. Nick as he passes famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China and even NORAD’s Colorado Springs headquarters.
We are thrilled to once again be a part of such a time-honored tradition with NORAD,” said Francesco Linsalata, AGI chief operating officer. “It’s important for AGI to participate in this great tradition and to help NORAD and the kids of the world find Santa through our Cesium globe."
Cesium, the open source project AGI founded, provides plug-in free dynamic web-based geospatial visualization. It uses WebGL for hardware-accelerated graphics and is cross-platform, cross-browser and tuned for dynamic-data visualization.
