STK/Conjunction Analysis Tools (STK/CAT)

STK/Conjunction Analysis Tools (STK/CAT) provide a layered approach to identifying close-approach situations, including actual satellite collisions or laser-clearing opportunities. For analyzing space collisions, STK/CAT uses either a spherical or elliptical threat volume for identifying when other space objects get too close to your spacecraft. Close approach analyses, compared against the entire NORAD TLE space catalog, may be performed for an individual spacecraft or multiple spacecraft at the same time for those operators handling multiple spacecraft systems.

Commercial and military operations often involve laser illumination of a satellite, missile, or launch vehicle from an Earth-based site. These illuminations can be used to provide precise range information or carry out data transfers to other satellites or ground facilities. However, they also pose a serious threat to other satellites; satellite sensors can be damaged or even destroyed if inadvertently illuminated. STK/CAT is designed to assess the potential of an unintended illumination of a satellite within a given laser-firing time period, so that mission planners can reduce the risk of damage to valuable space assets. STK/CAT will identify when clear-firing opportunities exist and identify unintended illuminations during a proposed laser-firing time. The laser-clearing analysis can be performed from ground- or aircraft-based platforms.
