Microsoft Windows Note

Windows 7 Support FAQ. When using Windows x64-based Operating Systems - STK will run as a 32-bit application in a 64-bit Windows environment.

CPU Note

Not supported on CPUs that do not support Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2). Some older AMD CPUs do not support SSE2. Check the CPU specifications.

Video Cards Note

Video cards based on chipsets from nVIDIA have shown excellent performance and compatibility with STK when using recent drivers in desktop or laptop computers. Graphics integrated on the motherboard in value desktop or laptop computers may have insufficient levels of 3D performance and will compete with STK and other applications for CPU resources which can create an unacceptable STK user experience. Matrox Gxxx and 3Dlabs cards should be avoided due to various incompatibilities with STK and/or OpenGL.

OpenGL Note

STK will automatically use OpenGL 1.1 with remote access applications (such as Microsoft Remote Desktop) and virtual PC applications (such as VMWare and Microsoft Virtual PC) that do not support OpenGL 1.2 extensions. Using OpenGL 1.1 with these applications will display the central body surface in the STK 3D Graphics window, with the following limitations:

  • You can add only the base texture to the globe. Additional textures will be rejected.
  • PDTT files will not work.

Disk Space Note

The following table lists the disk space requirements for installing the STK Software Suite. Also included in the table are the disk space requirements for optional STK modules that call for a significant amount of additional disk space. Actual disk space requirements depend on your selections during set up.

For installation more disk space is required than is needed for the actual size of the files because of the way in which the operation system allocates blocks of data. Some modules may require up to an additional 200 MB of temporary disk space during installation.

AGI Components and Insight3D for .NET Note

AGI Components requires v2.0 (or later) of the Microsoft .NET Framework. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 are explicitly supported when running Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0. Other Windows operating systems that are able to run the required version of .NET are likely to work as well.

AGI Components for Java Note

AGI Components for Java was tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, openSUSE, Solaris SPARC and OpenSolaris x86. Other operating systems that are able to run the required version of Java are extremely likely to work as well. Applications using AGI Components can be developed using any Java IDE of your choice. The provided sample applications include project files for Eclipse 3.5.

64-bit Computing Note

Most of AGI Components fully supports 64-bit computing. On a 64-bit operating system, AGI Components can be used in either a 32-bit or 64-bit process. However, the AGI.Foundation.Graphics.dll - Insight3D assembly is currently ONLY supported in a 32-bit process.

Globeserver requirements

In essence, Globeserver requires the setup of a web server (IIS) that is configured with a Perl runtime engine (free) and the Globeserver software. AGI does not provide the Perl software, however, instructions for installing it are offered with the Installation. The server-side Globeserver does not require any licensing or registration. Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 Pro are supported. Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 Pro, however, are limited to 10 simultaneous connections when operating as web servers. AGI does not recommend either Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro for Globeserver unless it is deployed for small groups or for testing purposes.

AGI Data Federate requires the use of a FlexNET License Server to host your license.

Obtain the Host ID and the Hostname or IP Address:

  • Start All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt. Right-click to 'Run as administrator'.
  • At the prompt, enter ipconfig /all
  • Under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection, note:
    • Physical Address (Host id)
    • IPv4 Address (IP Address)
  • Send this to AGI Support (moc.iga@troppus), with the subject line "Request for ADF Licenses."

You will receive an e-mail containing

  1. ADF Server Installation download link
  2. Detailed instructions for installing the License Server.
  3. Users are provided two *.lic files; a server license file installed on the FlexNET License Server and a client license, installed during the AGI Data Federate Server installation.
