Working with Graphs

You can enhance and supplement a static or strip chart graph using the buttons and right-click menu. To save, print, copy, refresh, save the graph as a quick report, or save changes to the graph style, use the buttons at the top of the graph window. To modify the graphics and layout settings, right-click the graph to see the available options.

Note: Graphs can be floated, integrated or docked. To select one of these options, right-click the title bar.

Graph Fields

Field Name Description
Interval
The graph interval time.
Start
The graph start time.
Stop
The graph stop time.
For more information on the options available for time intervals and start and stop times, see Time Options.
Step
The graph step time. Click inside the field to change the graph step time. Select the Units button to display a drop down menu. Select Format... to display the Format Dialog or select from the list of available time step formats.

Note: The displayed Step size value may not be the value used when generating the actual data in the graph. To refresh the graph, re-enter the Step size value or add a new value.

Save the graph in a number of formats, including bitmap (.bmp), metafile (.emf), JPEG (.jpg), Windows metafile (.wmf), and portable network graphics (.png).

Prints the active graph window.

Make a copy of the graph that can be pasted into other applications.
Zoom Out
Zoom Out
Zoom out of the graph by one step.
Refresh
Refresh
Refresh the graph to display any changes.
Graph Units
Graph Units
Set unit value formats for a graph.
Save As Quick Report
Save As Quick Report
Save the current graph for future use, retaining the customized object, time and unit settings of the displayed graph.
Save Report
Save Changes To Style
Save any changes made to the current graph style.
Cross Hair Cursor
Crosshair Cursor
Displays cross hairs across the width and height of the graph from the center of the cursor.
Toggle Time Line
Toggle Animation Timeline

Toggle on or off the display of a time line that tracks the current time across the graph when the scenario is animated.

In addition to the graph buttons, you can right-click the graph to display a pop-up menu that allows you to control a number of aspects of the graph.

Pop-up menu items

Menu item Description
Set Graph Time

  • Start Time - Sets the graph start time to the time at the current cursor selection point.
  • Stop Time - Sets the graph stop time to the time at the current cursor selection point.
The graph must be refreshed for the change in start and stop times to take effect.

Show Animation Time Line
Toggle on or off the display of a time line that tracks the current time across the graph when the scenario is animated.
Set Animation Time

Sets the current scenario time to the time at the current cursor selection point.

Set Animation Time options specific to interval graphs include:

  • Current - Sets the current scenario time to the time at the current cursor selection point.
  • Start Interval - Sets the current scenario time to the start time of the selected interval.
  • Stop Interval - Sets the current scenario time to the stop time of the selected interval.
Create Time Instant
Select from the pop-up menu items to create a new time instant.
  • Current... - Creates a time instant using the time at the current cursor selection point.
  • Interval Start... - Creates a time instant using the start time of the interval at the current cursor selection point.
  • Interval Stop... - Creates a time instant using the stop time of the interval at the current cursor selection point.
Upon selection the Create Time Instant window displays. Click OK to accept the automatically created name or rename the time instant and then click OK.
Create Time Interval...
Creates a time interval using the interval at the current cursor selection point. Upon selection the Create Time Interval window displays. Click OK to accept the automatically created name or rename the time interval and then click OK.
Refresh
Refresh the graph to display any changes.
Hide Toolbar
View the graph without the toolbar displayed.
Change Angle Range
Select between angle ranges of 0 - 360° and -180 - 180°.
Set Y, Y2 Scale Equal
Set the left and right axis to the same scale.
Font Size
Set the graph font size to Large, Medium, or Small.
Legend Style
Hide the graph legend or display the graph legend in a number of different positions on the graph.
Grid Options
Hide or show horizontal grid bands and grid lines on the graph. Select from a number of options for displaying grid lines and selecting their display style.
Include Data Labels
Display data labels on the graph.
Mark Data Points
Display data points on the graph.
Show Annotations
Toggle annotations, such as Day Lines and the Animation Time Line, on and off.
Undo Zoom
Zoom out to the original graph view.
Customization Dialog...

Displays a dialog with multiple tabbed windows that allow for the customization of different aspects of the graph. The tabbed windows include:
  • General - Customize Titles, Annotations, Grid Lines, and Font Size.
  • Plot - Customize the plot styles of graph data subsets and control the display of data points.
  • Subsets - Graph specific subsets of graph data and allow for scrolling through the display of subsets.
  • Axis - Customize the display of graph axes.
  • Font - Select fonts and styles for titles, subsets, points, and labels on the graph.
  • Color - Designate colors for different graph attributes.
  • Style - Assign styles to graph data subsets.
Select the Export... button to display the Export Dialog. Select the Maximize button to grow the graph to the size of the screen.
Export Dialog...

Export a copy of the graph.
  • Export - Export the graph in a number of standard formats.
  • Export Destination - Export to the Clipboard, a file or directly to the printer.
  • Export Size - Set the dimensions and resolution of the exported graph file.
