Collection planners are faced with the problem of knowing when an airborne or space-based platform will be over an area of
interest for collection opportunities. Analysts need to know platform position and attitude; imaging sensor geometries;
weather conditions that may affect the ability to collect and image; and geometry and time-of-day constraints.
In some instances, they may also need to integrate with geospatial data to model and identify ground targets and assess
collection opportunities. STK satisfies this integration need, ingesting the data directly from geospatial databases and
combining them with simulated or real-time models of collection platforms and their parameters. The GIS Analyst Extension for
STK can be used to enhance analysis for collection planning. Using these tools, collection planners are able to:
- Import GIS vector data sets to create area targets, line targets, or facilities for analysis
- Provide qualitative assessments of collection opportunities employing sensor fields of view, terrain, lighting, body obscuration, and weather constraints
- Customize sensors with variable pointing definitions and fields of view
- Maximize collection opportunities to encompass multiple dynamic relationships between segments, such as Sun-to-collection platform camera-to-ground targets
- Determine collection performances for Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (MASINT), IMINT, SIGINT, and other systems
- Calculate revisit times for collection platforms over areas of interest
- Compute coverage using complex figures of merit and visualize dynamic contours on terrain
- Employ STK/Scheduler to monitor, analyze, and schedule overflight times for multiple collection vehicle platforms.
- Utilize state-of-the-art satellite propagators that use high-fidelity force models to generate ephemeredes for various types of orbits
- Design UAV and other aircraft routes with high-fidelity flight profile models
- Ingest live position and velocity data for real-time collection management
- Analyze dynamic attitude of collection platforms for modeling and simulation
- Enhance situational awareness using visual cues (threat rings, range domes, speed leaders, drop-down lines)
- Visualize time-dynamic data via a customizable head-up display
