Modeling and Simulation of Debris

Click for larger view AGI produces high-fidelity modeling and simulation software for engineers, analysts, and operators who need to predict the effects of on-orbit conjunctions, as well as conduct trade-studies relative to future debris events. AGI technology utilizes a complete force model for accurate modeling of debris evolution and a display engine that reduces computational overhead and enables rapid comprehension of initial assessments.


AGI provides a complete break-up modeling environment for accurately simulating debris evolution and predicting the effect of explosions, collisions, and ASAT events in all orbit domains. The simulation technique employs an automated trajectory design that leverages a full force model and user-defined impulsive forces.

  • Debris trajectory design. By using impulsive forces to initiate the debris dispersion, large numbers of debris trajectories can be rapidly generated through the automation of STK/Astrogator's proven numerical integrator and complete force model.
  • Debris evolution. The application of full force models to the evolution of debris allows for proper accounting of debris which reenters and poses no further threat to operational satellites. Full force modeling also provides insight into the evolution of the debris into a more uniform distribution as a result of differential nodal regression rates.
  • Debris trade studies. Using STK/Astrogator with parametric comparisons of debris distributions, trade-studies to characterize increases in collision risks at specific time periods can be produced and analyzed.
