Earlier today, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 tragically went down in eastern Ukraine possibly due to a missile strike. In the image below, you can see the aircraft (oversized for visibility) depicted in its last known location at an altitude of 33,000 feet. The dome sections in the image depict the altitude capabilities of different types of surface to air missiles – the widely speculated cause of the crash. The top of each dome represents the maximum altitude of each system. This was created in STK
using clock angles and range constraints on complex sensors. The white drop down lines are added to the aircraft route to help depict altitude.
