Celebrating Space Day 2012

By: RocketGirl
Space Day is an educational initiative that began in 1997. It takes place the first Friday of May and is dedicated to achievements, benefits and opportunities in space use and exploration. AGI has been participating in Space Day for almost 10 years and this year is no different! In honor of Space Day 2012, we are hosting three classes of third graders from two local elementary schools to celebrate with us today!

We’ll start by learning about Robots in Space before building our own Soft “Egg Protecting” Landers. The students will get to test their engineering skills by having their landers dropped off the roof of AGI (by AGI’ers, we promise its safe) and seeing if their egg survives. Next, we’ll learn why it’s COOL to be a Space Nerd from one of AGI’s engineers. We finish with everyone launching their very own rockets (which around here isn’t really that rare, we launch rockets every chance we get)!

We are really excited about space and are happy to share our enthusiasm with the next generation of space explorers. You never know who you will inspire. We may end up with a future astronaut or AGI engineer!
