NEW AND ENHANCED CAPABILITIES
Analysis Using ESRI Map Documents (version STK 8.1)
The GIS Analyst Extension extends Globe Manager by allowing ESRI map documents to be integrated directly into STK analysis.
It provides full display control of map documents features and allows any point, line or polygon feature to be a mathematical
component of STK analysis. GIS Analyst Extension is available for STK Professional,
STK Expert Edition, AGI Viewer, or 4DX Embedded Technology applications.
Improved Planetary Mission Analysis (version STK 8.1)
Working with multiple central bodies in one scenario is now directly supported through the user interface. A new
"Planetary Options" setting exposes controls to independently specify the central body for the scenario and
individual objects. Additional controls are available to specify the central body for graphics windows, terrain and imagery
files, and satellite ground track displays.
Mission analysis concerning the polar regions of any central body will benefit from new support for polar stereographic
terrain formats and updates to STK/Coverage that can help analyze likely locations of water ice and evaluate possible
landing locations.
Trajectory designs that include landing on and returning from the surface of a central body can be modeled with a new
STK/Astrogator land-dwell-launch capability. For trajectories that have significant gravitational influence from multiple
central bodies (e.g. Earth/Moon or Jupiter/Europa), STK/Astrogator users have a new option to replace the point-mass
representation of secondary bodies with detailed gravity fields for higher propagation accuracy. Trajectory designers needing
custom targeting logic can use a new plug-in point to replace STK/Astrogator’s differential corrector.
Building 3-D Globes with Globe Manager (version STK 8 and higher)
The Globe Manager, available in STK Professional Edition and Viewer, is a new user interface that allows users to add,
remove, show, and hide terrain, imagery, and GIS layers through a new hierarchy tree. Further Globe Manager also allows
users to group, nest, and adjust the render order of the various layers.
Consolidated Terrain Analysis and Visualization (version STK 8 and higher)
Improvements in place in STK 8 have simplified this step by allowing both visualization and analysis to be combined in one
pdtt file format. This creates a consistency between visualization and analytic results for the user as well as simplifying
the process by having to import only one set of data.
JPEG 2000 Support (version STK 8 and higher)
Users can load JPEG 2000 images natively into STK without preprocessing them first.
Enhanced Aircraft and UAV Modeling (version STK 8 and higher)
Aircraft Mission Modeler now includes the modeling of Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) and Vertical Short Take Off and
Landing (VSTOL) for aircraft and UAVs.
REVAMPED PRODUCT LINE STRUCTURE
Product offerings are now consolidated into three STK editions—Basic, Professional, and Expert. Free to all users, STK Basic
solves fundamental location and inter-visibility problems associated with land, sea, air, and space scenarios. The retooled
STK Professional and the new STK Expert both include the analytical power of 3-D visualization, while solving more complex
design or operational problems. STK Professional incorporates the ability to calculate inter-visibility

among groups of objects or linked "chains" of objects; publish Visual Data Format (VDF) files for sharing within the STK and AGI
Viewer user communities; and import/export geographic information system (GIS) shapefiles. The STK Expert Edition is the
most comprehensive analysis solution, as it includes all capabilities of the STK Professional edition, as well as the
STK/Terrain, Imagery, & Maps module and the STK Standard Analysis modules.
ENTERPRISE SHARING OF STK DATA
Options for enterprise sharing are extensive in STK 8. The free AGI Viewer product offers a productive way to view, interact with,
and share 3-D scenes in one common environment—the Visual Data Format (VDF). The concept is similar to Adobe Acrobat except
that VDFs, unlike PDFs, provide a 3-D scene that users can interact with—cycle through stored scenes; pan, zoom, and rotate
views; create movies; take snapshots; and even change the physical features of the background globe
VDF files also support a "pack-and-go" transfer of STK analyses from one user to another. STK Professional
Edition allows users to set default conditions for authoring viewer files, and allows users to customize the characteristics
of each saved set. When opened by STK Professional and Expert editions users, VDFs behave just like a saved scenario file
except that all of the information is in one encrypted file. AGI Viewer also allows users to control the display of imagery,
terrain, and ArcGIS data; view and create multiple globe windows; and republish results for others to view.
To minimize local file storage, common globe attributes can be streamed from AGI Globeserver or your own local server.
VDF globe data need only point to the Globeserver location to minimize file size and maximize portability. Additionally,
users can embed VDFs into any Microsoft COM-compliant application such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and/or Excel to
communicate "rocket science" at an intuitive level.
