Lockheed Martin Implements AGI’s STK Terrain Server for GVS Program

Analytical Graphics Inc.’s (AGI) STK Terrain Server was recently implemented by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) to provide a superior conduit for bringing terrain sources into GEOINT Visualization Services (GVS) and the Map of the World (MoW) Viewer. This off-the-shelf software enhances National Geospatial Agency (NGA) user-operations by delivering an elevated geographical representation of the world through terrain processing and streaming optimization.

The MoW 3D Viewer, built on the open source Cesium globe for 3D/4D functionality, leverages the functionality brought by the STK Terrain Server.  The MoW viewer allows users to easily discover and visualize authoritative and community content in both two dimensional and three dimensional 2D and 3D.

Lockheed Martin is optimistic that the Map of the World Viewer is blazing toward new horizons, and that this integration will provide significantly more geographic detail to any intelligence report or operating picture for Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) users.

Lockheed was awarded the GVS contract in September 2016, to develop and deploy the 3D/4D globe, and to deliver enterprise visualization services for the intelligence community, Department of Defense, and other government agencies. GVS services are used daily by 30,000+ users on 10 different networks as well as by disconnected users leveraging “portable” globes.  The STK Terrain Server empowers Lockheed Martin to process authoritative, high-resolution terrain sources into an open format, which can be streamed over the network into a Cesium globe. Lockheed began utilizing open-source Cesium globe as a replacement for another commercial system in December of 2015.
